Lot Essay

Although the 1784 Descriptive Catalogue of COADE'S Artificial Stone Manufactory lists, under Section I 'STATUES' No.6, a Minerva, the present model differs to that listed and illustrated, an attribution to Coade's principle modeller John Bacon seems likely.
