Engraved frontispiece by Antonio Baratti printed in rose, title printed in red and black within an elaborate green-printed border of puti, doves, cornucopia, and emblems of the arts with the conjoined arms of the married couple at the foot by Carlo Orsolini, portrait of the Doge printed in rose as vignette, with 54 vignettes as head- and tail-pieces, 22 of these printed in red or sepia tones and 4 in blue or green, with the printer's device to verso of final leaf, and further decorative devices throughout. (D2 cropped at top edge touching head-piece, occasional light dust soiling.) Contemporary floral painted paper wrappers (rebacked, spine wormed, fore-edge of upper wrapper worn at lower section).
A FINE EXAMPLE OF AN ITALIAN FESTIVAL BOOK with superb colour printing by the pre-eminent Venetian publisher Antonio Zatta, whose finest work was produced, as here, to commemorate important events in the civic and private lives of distinguished Venetian families. In this case the book is dedicated to the 116th Doge of Venice Francesco Loredan (1685-1762), whose portrait appears on the title-page. The beautiful copper engraved vignettes throughout the book are by Giovanni Magnini, but other artists include Giovanni Scajario, Bartolomeo Crivellari, and Giacomo Leonardis amongst others.
