Engraved frontispiece after Pietro Antonio Novelli, engraved title, verso with engraved arms of the Gabriel family, full-page engraved colophon at end, text leaves within engraved rococo borders of twelve different designs. Original Venetian gold-printed flexible green boards, the Gabriel arms on front cover and interlocked initials of Venice on back (rebacked); cloth slipcase. Provenance: acquired from Marlborough Rare Books, 1991.

FIRST EDITION. The frontispiece shows Gabriel's portrait accompanied by views of Turin, Rome, Milan and Naples, and the title depicts putti holding up a veil containing the title. The one hundred pages of text are each surrounded by elaborate borders animated by oriental landscapes and figures. The borders incorporate vegetation, jewellry, artists' equipment and musical instruments, and the scenes at the bottom show libraries, artists, putti and exotic scenes. The poems are by D. Florio, L.
