A FINE DECORATIVE FULL ARMOUR IN GERMAN LATE 16TH CENTURY 'BLACK & WHITE' STYLE
ALMOST CERTAINLY FROM THE ATELIER OF ERNST SCHMIDT, MUNICH, LATE 19TH EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Comprising burgonet with prominent roped comb, pivoting peak, pierced falling buffe of three prow-shaped plates, and twin gorget-plates front and rear, gorget of three plates front and rear, cuirass comprising breast-plate with moveable arm-gussets and lance-rest, and back-plate shaped to the shoulders with culet of two plates, skirt of three plates bearing full-length tassets of fourteen plates each joined to the cuisse, greave and round-toed sabaton to form a full leg-harness, full arm defences including right pauldron fitted with a circular besagew, and fingered gauntlets, the surfaces throughout with recessed borders and raised bands, all bright against a black ground, the principle edges roped, on a stand with wooden base, and with a decorative swept-hilt military rapier with slender double-edged fullered blade, and hilt of flattened bars, and a left-hand dagger each in German 16th century style (3)
