With double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with an orb and cross mark inlaid in latten on one side and a broad shallow fuller on each face extending through the long tapering ricasso, short side-lugs each struck on each face with a maker's mark, later iron guard comprising pointed quillon-block chiselled with foliage, long straight quillons of flattened diamond section each chiselled with foliage at the tip, and symmetrical side-rings each chiselled with an oval of foliage en suite with the quillon-tips, later leather-covered grip with iron ferrules (re-gripped since 1991 sale), and large globular pommel chiselled in relief with foliage

It is believed this could be the sword held by Whawell in his portrait in armour by J. Seymour Lucas that was reproduced as the frontispiece to the 1927 catalogue
