AN ENGLISH SMALL-SWORD WITH CUT-STEEL HILT
SECOND QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY
With slender blade of hollow triangular section, the forte with gilt etched ornament against a blued ground, and bright cut-steel hilt comprising slightly dished oval guard, faceted quillon-block, lobed rear-quillon, grip, knuckle-guard and urn-shaped pommel all set with steel beads cut in imitation of brilliants, in original steel-mounted vellum-covered scabbard; together with A FRENCH SMALL-SWORD WITH CHISELLED AND PIERCED HILT, late 18th century, with bright blade of hollow triangular section, and steel hilt decorated with flower-heads and scrollwork, the majority of it pierced, including double shell-guard and openwork spherical pommel, and wire-bound grip with Turk's heads (pommel loose), in iron-mounted black-leather-covered scabbard
