A FRENCH SMALL-SWORD WITH SILVER HILT
PARIS SILVER MARKS FOR 1771-2
With tapering hollow-ground Colichemarde blade etched with scrollwork and trophies of arms retaining some original gilding at the forte, cast and chased silver hilt comprising symmetrical double shell-guards, quillon-block, short lobed rear-quillon, knuckle-guard and globular pommel, decorated throughout with pierced panels, urns, flowers, and scrollwork, some pierced, all against a punched ground, swelled grip bound with silver ribbon and wire, in later vellum-covered scabbard (tip damaged) with pierced silver-plated mounts
