A PAIR OF SCOTTISH 28-BORE ALL-STEEL FLINTLOCK BELT-PISTOLS
BY JOHN CAMPBELL, DOUNE, THIRD QUARTER OF THE 18TH CENTURY
Each with scroll engraved four-stage barrel with short fluted breech-section and flared faceted muzzle, border and scroll engraved flat lock signed 'JOHN CAMPBELL', stock with ram's horn butt decorated throughout with panels of scrollwork heightened with silver inlay, the underside with three silver-inlaid bands each engraved with running foliage, the butt with a large silver oval escutcheon on each side, silver button trigger and pricker (one trigger and both prickers expert replacements), iron belt-hook, and turned and pierced iron ramrod (some wear and surface corrosion marking throughout)
