This model represents an early design for the new Church of The Holy Cross, Greenford, Middlesex, put forward by Professor Sir Albert Richardson in 1937. Whilst it varies from the Richardson designed timber framed building subsequently erected in 1939-42, elements of the design are clearly recognisable from this early draft.he design was based on a timber truss structure incorporating interlocking straight members, which created a low-eaved profile. The dramatic timber interior was highly acclaimed. The 'New Church', as it is still referred to, was built to serve the needs of the parish of Greenford Magna which covered a suburb of London that had grown inexorably during the 1930's, overwhelming the ancient parish church which remains on an adjacent site.
