Rectangular with round corners, the top and sides decorated in gold and black hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, togidashi and nashiji with gourd vines and flowers on a black ground, the interior decorated in gold togidashi and hiramaki-e with stylized birds and butterflies on a roiro and nashiji ground, rims silver

With original wood box, signed Gyokuho saku (made by Gyokuho) and inscribed Hyotan maki-e ryoshibako (stationery box with design of double-gourd)
