Lot Essay
Kimura Hideo, a Kyoto lacquer artist trained by Tojima Shinjiro, had twenty-five pupils. Beginning in the late 19th century, Kimura participated in a variety of national exhibitions, earning a 5th place at an exhibition in the Kansai area in 1897 and another prize in 1909. He exhibited in the 5th National Industrial Exhibition, Osaka, 1903, the Hyobikai in 1912 and the Shin-kobijutsu in 1908-11 and 1913. He won a third prize at a Kyoto lacquer competition in 1922.
