A rare 17th-century silver 'penner', unsigned, the instrument diveded into six sections for use as a compass with hinged cover, a pen-nib guard, a writing pen, a pocket knife and pencil a pencil guard and an ink cistern forming the base engraved with a coat of arms, the whole engraved with foliate decoration and linear scales with stamped numerals, 5.34in. (14.5cm.) long
