Lot Essay

The floral design of this bowl originated in the Kangxi period, as evinced by a Kangxi-marked example of slightly smaller size (5.7 cm.) illustrated in Treasures in the Royalty: The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty, Shanghai, 2003, p. 52. Compare, also, the Yongzheng yuzhi-marked example in the current sale, lot 1310, for a further discussion of this design. Guangxu-marked bowls of this design appear to be very rare.
