A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF A STANDING BODHISATTVA
SUI DYNASTY (AD 581-618)
The slender figure is shown standing atop a lotus socle supported by openwork fronds, with right hand raised in abhaya mudra and the left pendent at the side. The figure wears a long chain gathered by a medallion at the waist that falls in deep loops down the front of the dhoti, and a three-point crown backed by a flame-shaped mandorla. A rectangular tenon projects from the side of the bottom of the fronds.
