A HUANGHUALI FOUR-PANEL FOLDING SCREEN, WEIPING
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Each panel has an upper and lower section carved in openwork. The top panel is carved with a shaped medallion enclosing a mythical beast flanked by scrolling vines. Each bottom panel is carved with a stylized character, which together form the wish shou lu wu jiang (May you have longevity and wealth without end), amidst a stylized chi dragon motif. The central section is inset with a large rectangular mat. The vertical posts are joined by shaped aprons carved in relief with sinuous confronted chilong.
