A WELL-CARVED BROWN AND GREENISH-WHITE JADE CARVING OF THE SANDUO

The group is finely carved as a large, hollowed Buddha's hand citron with bats alighted on two of the 'fingers'above the peach and pomegranate carved to one side, which form the sanduo, all borne on the leafy, gnarled branches that form the openwork base. The well-polished stone is of soft brown and pale greenish-white color.

Lot Essay

The three fruiting branches of peach, pomegranate and finger citron combined form the sanduo (Three Abundances), and together with the bats they form the rebus fushou sanduo, symbolizing the wish for numerous sons, a long life and blessings.
