The decorative scheme of this cupboard was inspired on the so called sadeli micro mosaic technique which was a speciality of the Sindh and Gujarat in the 16th century. The luxurious goods produced there were largely exported and the technique was adopted Iran and also in Italy where it was called alla certosina. The present cabinet is very similar in decoration to a 16th century Sindh gaming board sold in these rooms on 5 October 2010, lot 361. It is likely that the craftsman who made this table cabinet followed an earlier Indian cabinet.
