La Geografia: Venice: Giordano Ziletti, 1574-73. 3 parts in one volume, 4° (220 x 155mm). Woodcut devices on title, a few woodcuts diagrams and illustrations, 52 (of 65) double-page engraved maps, woodcut illustrations. (Title repaired with some loss, lacking 6 leaves in the first two gatherings, some replaced in facsimile, lacking A2-M2 in the 'Modern maps' section, some gatherings detached, occasional soiling and wormholes.) 17th-century boards, title and shelf mark label on spine, red edges (some rubbing, joints splitting, small wormtrack). Provenance: Compagnia del Gesú, Rome (book label and stamp on title).
Third edition of Ruscelli's Italian translation of Ptolemy. With some exceptions the copperplates maps, accompanied by descriptive text on the verso, are the same as those in the two preceding editions, and of the 1562 Latin edition, having been printed from the same plates.
