A pair of Italian maiolica ewers
of tapering cylindrical form, each painted in colours with a winged putto among clouds, one holding a trident, the other pan pipes, within stiff-leaf oval panels, on a blue ground painted in shades of pale green with scrolling foliage terminating in mythical beast masks, bearded masks and urns and trumpets issuing flowers, each with a scroll handle terminating in masks -- 26in. (66cm.) high
