CARLEVARIS, Luca (1663-1730). Le fabriche, e vedute di Venetia. Venice: G.-B. Finazzi, [c. 1703].
Oblong 2° (300 x 422mm). Engraved title, dedication to Doge Luigi Mocenigo dated 27 May 1703, and 103 numbered etched views by Carlevaris. (Puncture marks to the centre-verso of plate 103 running through to plate 95, with associated small holes to plates 100-103, occasional faint soiling and browning.) Contemporary panelled calf, gilt spine with red morocco lettering-piece, speckled edges (extremities rubbed, more heavily to joints and head- and tail-caps). Provenance: Emily, Marchioness of Lansdowne (1819-1895; engraved armorial bookplate).
VERY WIDE-MARGINED COPY of the third edition with the plates numbered 1-101 in second state, and plates 102 and 103 numbered on the left in first state. The first edition, with the imprint of G.B. Finazzi, was published in 1703, with 100 plates. It was a great success, and the number of plates was gradually increased with each succeeding edition. Cf. Berlin Kat. 2682 (100 plates); Succi, Da Carlevarijs ai Tiepolo, pp.112 ff.
