A YELLOW JADE DOG
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The jade is well modelled as a recumbent dog with its head turned back over the right shoulder, its face with an alert expression with wide eyes and pricked-back ears. The paws, ridged back and bushy tail are all finely detailed. The stone of a greenish-yellow tone with brown russet and opaque inclusion. The brown veining and russet well worked to accentuate the spinal ridge and paws.

Lot Essay

Qing examples of animal carving in yellow jade are relatively rare to find. Compare to a yellow jade beast in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in Jadeware (III), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1995, pl. 93.
