Lot Essay

The fountain is accompanied by a period photograph from the sculptor entitled in ink ‘Fons - Amoris’, signed and dated ‘Ch. Raphaël Peyre Salon de 1923’, and inscribed ‘Reproduction acquire par la Ville de Paris’: suggesting that another example was made for the city of Paris, or possibly for the Hôtel de Ville. The reverse of the photograph is inked ‘Ch. Raphaël Peyre Statuary – décorator 245 Avenue Daumesnil – Paris’.
