A Lacquered-wood Folding Table Inlaid with Mother-of-Pearl
Joseon dynasty (19th century)
With rectangular top surface upturned on the short sides and set on folding supports composed of two carved legs and connecting join pierced by two lozenges, the top surface inlaid in mother-of-pearl with a rectangular panel of a budding and flowering plum and young bamboo and a poem within a wide border of lotus arabesques, the edges of the long sides additionally inlaid with mother-of-pearl fretwork; the legs and lower sides inlaid with mother-of-pearl lotus arabesques and applied with protective bosses on the outer edges of the legs, the inner surfaces of the legs inlaid with small mother-of-pearl circles; the exterior grounds black lacquer and the underside of the top and inner faces of the legs applied with red lacquer
