A SMALL WHITE AND RUSSET JADE FIGURE OF A SEATED QILIN
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The seated mythical beast has an incised beard, slightly open jaws, a flat muzzle, a pair of long horns that extend to the back beside the bifurcated end of the upright tail, and inscribed scrolls on the rear haunches. A small hole is between the front paws, and the body is drilled with a vertical channel. One side of the body shows the whitish area of the stone, while the reverse is opaque and has reddish-brown color.
