Engraved map of the Holy Land and Egypt, fully colored by a contemporary hand, image 347 x 465 mm (425 x 566 mm sheet). A cartouche in the upper left corner includes a description of the region. The title cartouche with mileage scale below it is in the lower right corner. Five ships and a sea monster are depicted in the ocean. Latin text on verso. (A few minor marginal tears, closed on verso).

Beautifully colored example of Ortelius' map of the Holy Land from Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first modern atlas. Ortelius famous map is based on Tilemann Stoltz's map, published in 1566. Laor 540B; Nebenzahl 30.
