Arabic manuscript on paper, 433ff., each with 13ll. of cursory black naskh script, verses marked with red roundels, khams markers as clusters of three red roundels, sura headings in red, marginal markers in red, opening bifolio with yellow, black, red and green illuminated panels with chequered motifs, the verses marked with polychrome rosettes, colophon signed and dated, paper with tre lune watermark and countermark of 'A M', in associated gilt stamped red morocco binding with applied cusped medallions

Lot Essay

The colophon of this Qur'an indicates that it was commissioned by al-Qa'id Shaykh Muhammad bin Mu'ayqal and that it was copied in Taff, near Ihsa' by Barrak bin Khalid bin Watban al-Najdi from the the Subay' tribe. The Subay' is a tribe from Central Saudi Arabia
