FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. 'A copy of this book not only has a place in literary history as the first American edition of Hawkesworth's account of Cook's first voyage, but to amateurs of the colonial book it is distinguished by the presence in it of a plate engraved by Paul Revere before the days of his Revolutionary fame, and of the first printed map from the hand of the engineer-cartographer Bernard Romans' (JCB Annual Report). Like the Thomas W. Streeter copy, this copy has only 17 pages of subscribers (not 18), and may indicate an earlier issue. Beddie 656; Holmes 9; JCB Annual Report for 1931, pp.12-15; Sabin 30936.
