Large woodcut arms on verso of penultimate leaf, white-on-black printer's device on recto. With the added half leaf between pp.588 & 589. Many leaves guarded. (Some staining, occasional marginal tear, a few headlines shaved.) Contemporary Italian half calf over wooden boards, tooled in blind with knotwork stamp, evidence of 4 clasps, an 11th-early 12th-century vellum leaf in Carolingian miniscule from a manuscript of Gregory the Great at each end (somewhat worn, corner of lower board broken away). Provenance: unlocalised monastery of St. Faustinus (contemporary inscription at end) -- Michael Russell (modern blindstamp on last leaf).
