The crest is for James Harris, later 1st Earl of Malmesbury (1746-1820). The Prussian eagle, an augmentation to the arms, was added in 1789.

The initial M is probably for William Wellesley-Pole, Baron Maryborough and later 3rd Earl of Mornington (1763-1845), whose daughter Emily (1792-1881) married Lord FitzRoy Somerset, later 1st Baron Raglan.
