A YUNNAN-STYLE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER 'FLORAL' CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The cover with gently rounded sides is shallowly carved in the central medallion with two large peony blooms surrounded by dense foliage, the sides similarly carved with four large blooms amidst lush leaves and tendrils, repeated on the sides of the box. The interior and base are lacquered black.
