A JADE-INLAID CINNABAR LACQUER PETAL-LOBED BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The petal-lobed cover is inset with six carved trapezoid plaques surrounding a central jade flowerhead, all within a mallow-shaped medallion bordered by keyfret and lappet bands. The sides are carved with six shaped cartouches, each enclosing a peony stem, against a florette-enclosing diamond diaper ground, repeated on the sides of the box. The interiors and base are lacquered black.
