Small 2o. Engraved title and 18 mezzotint plates printed on china paper and mounted after Turner and Girtin. (Some light spotting.) Contemporary English calf gilt, edges gilt (hinges and extremeties rubbed). Provenance: Charles Douglas Halford (bookplate on pastedown); acquired from Marlborough Rare Books, 1975.
"Turner's rendering of light on clouds and water puts these scenes among his finest prints, while Girtin's darker engravings have a gloomy majesty" (Ray). The Table of Contents calls for 18 plates, but Ray calls for 20. Ray England 12.
