These photographs were taken by Peter Van Wagenen who attended the concert with his classmates, Reed Hundt and Al Gore.
This concert was the Beatles’ first ever live appearance in the U.S. following their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show two days earlier. The opening acts were advertised as Tommy Roe, The Caravelles and The Chiffons; it is reported that The Chiffons were prevented from travelling to Washington by a snow storm but these negatives do clearly show that the Chiffons did in fact appear. It was also reported that the Righteous Brothers appeared that night, along with Jay and The Americans.
