2° (336 x 215mm). Title within woodcut border by Kerver, 181 woodcut illustrations, including 10 full-page, woodcut initials and headpieces, Kerver’s device (Renouard 515) on verso of final leaf. (Small hole affecting one or 2 letters in a6 & A1, small repairs in lower margin of B1 and Y1&2, nearly half of K1 re-margined, touching catchword on verso, outer margin of P6 re-margined, some light waterstaining and browning.) Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine). Provenance: A. H. Bright (bookplate).

Second edition in French. All but one of the woodcuts are the same as the ones used in the first French edition of 1546, and were still used in 1600 and ca. 1610 edition. They have been attributed to Jean Cousin or Jean Goujon. This edition contains one new full-page woodcut on B6v which omits the lettering of the earlier version and the text concerning the diagram has been revised to remove the guide letters. This is the first edition which contains the comment in Latin by Jacques Gohory, which is addressed to the reader, on the verso of the title. Brunet IV, 778-779; Mortimer French 146.
