FIRST EDITION OF THIS CLASSIC WORK ON TOXICOLOGY. Jacques Grevin, although Calvinist, was a playwright and poet in the tradition of Ronsard. He also successfully practised medicine, translating in 1567 Johann Wier's famous treatise On the Illusions of the Demons and on Spells and Poisons, followed by the present work and in 1569, a translation of Vesalius's Anatomy. Grevin died aged 31 in Turin while in service to Marguerite of France, daughter of Francis I, Duchess of Savoy. Adams G-1245; Voet 1266.
