OTTOMAN TURKEY AND PROVINCES, 19TH CENTURY
Each on plain base, of spherical form, the first in a brass bowl, the slightly raised lid engraved with enamel radiating floral pattern unscrewing to reveal a blue and red eight pointed star motif and an arrow illustrated with a depiction of the Ka’ba, with maker’s name and numbered at the base ; The second with polychrome dial and medallion inscribed in red naskh script set in an ivory base with glass lid and silver rim, signed and dated ; The third set in ivory body with screwed flat lid, the red and yellow dial divided in semi-circular segments with names of winds in naskh script ; The fourth with waisted flaring brass body rising to a flat lid unscrewing to reveal an orange dial pivoting around with an arrow, the rim with hemispherical medallions giving the names of the four winds in naskh script ; The fifth in brass casing, the rotating dial with a gilt eight pointed star ; The sixth with waisted flaring brass body rising to a flat lid unscrewing to reveal an orange dial with four medallions with inscriptions in naskh script giving the names of the four winds (qibla, bati, kyun and yildiz) ; good condition
