A VERY FINE CASED FRENCH PRESENTATION GARNITURE
BY LE PAGE MOUTIER, PARIS, THIRD QUARTER OF THE 19th CENTURY
Comprising a pair of percussion duelling target pistols each with signed blued rifled barrels, case-hardened detented floating locks and mounts all chiselled with scrollwork, carved ebony half-stocks, and retaining virtually all their original finish throughout; a double-barrelled pinfire rifle of Lefaucheux type, with signed browned barrels, case-hardened signed floating back-action locks, figured walnut butt, and retaining nearly all its original finish; and a very rare 11mm (Gevelot) Le Page Moutier system revolver ornamented throughout with gilt chiselled flowering foliage, the barrel with chiselled signature on the top-flat, carved ebony grips, and retaining much original finish throughout; all contained in large close-fitted case lined in emerald green velvet, the lid signed 'Lepage Moutier a Paris' in gilt lettering, with accessories including Le Page pistol-flask, the exterior with shaped brass escutcheon engraved with the presentation inscription 'Offert par SAR M.gr le Duc d'Aumale a Mr. Louis Guerin', each firearm bearing the monogram 'LG'
The pistols 16 ¼ in. (41 cm.) overall; the rifle 19 ¾ in. (50 cm.) barrels; and revolver 11 3/8 in. (29 cm.) overall
The pistols serial no. 2643, signed 'Fni P Le Page Moutier', stocks marked 'JNI' within the barrel-channel; the rifle serial no. 4900, barrels signed 'Leopold Bernard Canonnier a Paris' on the flats, dated '1862', the revolver serial no. 474, struck with maker's mark on grip-strap
