A VERY RARE GERMAN IRON RIFLED CANNON BEARING THE GOLD- AND SILVER-INLAID MONOGRAM OF HERZOG AUGUST WILHELM VON BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL-BEVERN
CIRCA 1720-30
With five stage barrel rifled with ten grooves, silver fore-sight, the muzzle and chase each inlaid with silver lines and dots, the first reinforce decorated with further lines and dots, and a crowned monogram flanked by standards with a shield bearing a coat of arms beneath, vent bordered by a gold-inlaid flower-head, and cascable with further gold- and silver-inlaid ornament, on original brass-mounted wooden carriage with large applied brass plaque engraved with the von Braunschweig ducal coat of arms
The barrel 36 3/4 in. (93.5 cm.) long, bore diam. approx. 1 3/8 in. (3.5 cm.)
