Recueil de Cent Estampes representant differentes Nations du Levant, tirées sur les Tableaux peints d’apres Nature en 1707. et 1708. Par les orders de M. de Ferriol… Et gravée en 1712. et 1713. Engraved calligraphic title-page, 100 engraved plates including the double-page marriage procession, numbered in the plate. (Some light soiling, mainly confined to margins.) Modern brown half morocco, gilt spine.
FIRST EDITION of the work re-issued and continued in 1715 with the addition of text and 3 engravings. Ferriol, French ambassador to the Ottoman court, commissioned the original drawings from J.B. Van Mour of Flanders, resident in Constantinople for many years. These became the most popular and influential illustrations of Turkish costume, and remained the standard for future depictions.
