A THANGKA DEPICTING TSONGKHAPA (1357-1419)

The thangka vibrantly coloured and gilt, the lama is depicted with his hands in dharmacakra mudra, symbolising the setting in motion of the Wheel of the Law, and he is seated in vajrasana on a lotus base upon swirling clouds. He is flanked by lotus blossoms supporting the sword and the book. Amitayus floats on a nimbus above him, and below him kneels a donor figure.
The thangka, 21 in. (53.5 cm.) long; 15 in. (38 cm.) wide, mounted in brocade
