MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The rectangular inkstone is carved and incised on the top with a scene of scholars seated within a pavilion in the upper right corner overlooking a bridge, above an irregularly shaped palette. The sides are carved with scenes from the gathering at the Orchid Pavilion. The underside is carved in relief with geese swimming and on an enbankment with a poetic inscription in seal script incised on the upper left corner, below a four-character collector's signature on the top edge.
