AN AMBER VASE AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The vase is modelled in an archaistic flattened baluster shape with lion-mask handles on the narrow sides. The front and reverse are carved with shallow relief bands of ruyi between key-fret and decorated further on the the shoulder with ruyi and stylised shou characters. The domed cover is surmounted with a Buddhist lion and cub finial. The amber is of an even transluscent orange tone.
