There are stylistic similarities with a drawing attributed to Verbeeck, The grey horse, in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem (M. Plomp, The Dutch Drawings in the Teyler Museum, Haarlem, 1997, II, no. 494). However, that and the present drawing are currently the only works attributed to Verbeeck which do not feature the use of both pen and brush, and a possibility remains that they may in fact be by Verbeeck's pupil Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668).
