Each bowl is painted to the exterior with four medallions enclosing scenes from the story Niu lang zhi nu, 'The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd', all reserved on a deep pink sgraffiato ground interspersed with wispy clouds. The interior is painted in underglaze blue with a central medallion depicting two Immortals, surrounded by ruyi-form clouds.
