HM Borges, Terrantez 1877
Levels: into neck; wax capsules, stencilled 'T' with new Christie's back label, ''Henriques Menezes Borges, who founded the company H M Borges, in 1877. Stored the wine Terrantez in the same year in 70 litre demi-johns. This wine was bottled in May 2013, this rare vintage Madeira was especially selected for sale at Christie's."
Tasting note: Believed to be transferred from cask to demi-john around 1900. Very nice nose of vintage furniture wax, leather and faint floral scent. After some time in the glass more aromas emerged like aniseed and fennel. Makes you want to pick up your glass time after time and go back to that lovely smell. Fine intense rich start of taste, elegant with some grapefruit bitterness, refined.
Last tasted January 2013, EV.
