Each plaque is carved on one side with a mountainous landscape scene. One depicts a lady holding a lingzhi spray walking towards a dwelling on a cliff, followed by her attendant carrying a qin; the other plaque depicts a tranquil landscape with a gentleman seated in a pavilion looking out toward his attendant holding a goose in his hands.

The present pair of jade plaques was passed down from the current owner's grandfather, James Burgess Fearon, who was born in Shanghai in 1916 and came from a family active in the Chinese trade during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
