A celebrated commentary on the Qur’an by the 11th Shi’ite Imam, followed by a complement to this work, Arabic manuscript on paper, 147ff. plus one fly-leaf, each folio with 33ll. of dense black naskh script, titles in red, important words in larger script or highlighted in red, opening folio with large title in black thuluth script highlighted in red, occasional marginal notes, two colophons signed and dated, followed by two folios with various added texts, with Timurid or Safavid black seal impressions, H Kevorkian collection label, in white morocco binding, with modern fitted case

Lot Essay

In the colophon to the Tafsir, the scribe ‘Abbas bin Ja’far al-Jurjani states that he wrote this copy for himself. He also indicates in the second colophon that the second part of this manuscript is an additional chapter dealing with the Jewish religion which '[was] not included in [the original copy] of the Tafsir' the scribe was working from.
