Lot Essay

Al-Khabbazi was from Khujand but taught in Damascus until his death in 1291. This copy, dated to 1348 is therefore a relatively early copy of this work. Al-Khabbazi studied in Bukhara with ‘Ala al-Din ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Bukhari, an expert in legal methodology (usul al-fiqh) who is mentioned in the penultimate folio of this manuscript.
