This is a commentary on the Talkhis al-Miftah of Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Qazwini better known as Khatib Dimashqi (d. 1338), itself an abridgment of the third part of Miftah al-‘Ulum by al-Sakkaki (d. 1229 AD).

The author of this commentary could be al-Taftazani (d. 1389 AD) in which case the present manuscript would have been written during the lifetime of the author; but the title appears as al-Sharh al-Mukhtasar in a copy dated 26 Sha’ban AH 877/26 January 1473 AD in the Chester Beatty Library catalogue (see A. J. Arberry, A Handlist of the Arabic Manuscripts, volume III, Dublin, 1958, p. 84, no. 3691, and U. Lyons, The Indexes, volume VIII, Dublin, 1966, p.124).

See Brockelmann, GAL, i. 296, Suppl. i. 518.

The name of the patron of this manuscript is mentioned as Abu al-Husayn Muhammad Kart. The scribe started copying this manuscript in AH 742 in Jurjaniyat in Khwarazm and completed it in Herat in AH 748.
