尚扬的艺术创作与中国社会改革以及思潮相互呼应,使他在中国当代艺术史上极具特殊性。改革开放后,个体的自由和解放,伴随着85思潮在中国催生了艺术家们的“人文热情”,因而社会需要自由的艺术。一次深入黄河流域的体验,为尚扬绘画语言找到了突破。 在洪湖边及父亲的国画桌边上长大,从小受到雅致的中国古画耳濡目染,因而造就尚扬不浮华的艺术风格。色调沿用画家著名的“尚扬黄”,迷蒙的淡泥黄色基调蕴藏了对陕西地方戏曲“秦腔”以及辽阔地黄土高原的记忆。在满是冰凌的黄河摊上,画家乘坐船夫的渡船,用近乎平面的中国书写方式寻到其独特画风,得以将黄土地的质朴和不平凡绘于画布上。 自古中国人明了山水的意义不在于表面景色,而在于情感的寄托,艺术家将五色墨的写意晕染笔触,经其之手转化为油画的大面积涂色,将对土地 的激情寄托于沉着统一的单色调。以油彩模仿西方拼贴构图,布局兼容中国简洁平面架构,观众被置于沿岸边远眺之河上风景。艺术家精心安排的抽象艘船被引入画布中央成为视觉焦点,画图点睛。鱼钓常被古代视为理想的生活方式之一,吴镇的《芦滩钓艇图卷》湿笔染出的阴郁恰和此画幅给观者浑厚沉郁的朦胧视觉风格相符,此处虽非表达艺术家避世的逸想,但却将文人雅士隐居的情怀以后现代的表现手法呈现于眼。看似在画布上的寥寥数笔,体现的是尚扬以新颖的方式琢磨传统文人画中画与文、与人三者间之关系。
